WELCOME TO THE MEIER CLINICS IN WHEATON, IL

Our Christian counseling team of professionals welcomes you to our web page and trust that the information here, and elsewhere on the Meier Clinics web site, will be helpful in answering your questions and helping you get better acquainted with us.

The Meier Clinics of Illinois, P.C., established the first Illinois clinic in Wheaton, a western suburb of Chicago.  Mrs. Nancy Brown, the Meier Clinics President and sister of Paul Meier, M.D., originally worked with her brother in establishing the first Meier Clinics in Richardson, Texas in 1976.  When her family relocated to the Chicago area, Nancy was asked to establish the first Illinois Clinic.  The clinic opened its doors in September 1986 with just a couple of counselors.  The Clinic grew rapidly as word got out that there was finally a Meier Clinic in the Chicagoland area.  Within the year, we outgrew our space and had to expand to the next building and, one year later, we had to move once again to our current building.  We've grown from two counselors to a clinical staff of approximately 35 psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed master level counselors, nurses, doctoral interns and a dietician to provide a wide range of counseling needs.  We invite you to read more about our team of Christian counselors.

AVAILABLE SERVICES AT THE WHEATON CLINIC

Outpatient Counseling - With a broad range of professional experience and solid educational backgrounds, our Outpatient Christian counselors are able to help individuals (ages two years old through geriatric), couples, and families address the concerns and hurts that are affecting them emotionally, relationally, physically, and spiritually.  Through developing an individual treatment plan, issues are dealt with effectively to help clients move forward in life and find the restoration they are seeking.  People are finding ways to cope with ongoing health concerns, medical management care to address the physical component of their illness, action plans to help them turn their lives around in the right direction, new and effective ways to communicate with loved ones and co-workers, solutions to mending damaged relationships, improved self-image, the courage to stop destructive behaviors, the ability to give and receive forgiveness, new insights into their spirituality, and much more.  In additional to counseling, we also offer Life Coaching in person or via phone.

Adult Day Treatment Program - In 1987, we created an Adult Day Treatment Program which was a cutting edge type of care at that time and is still quite unique even today.  When clients find they are stuck in Outpatient counseling or need to transition from hospital or residential care, the Day Program is the answer.  This typically three-week program allows clients to immerse themselves in the healing process to move along more quickly to a restored and healthy lifestyle.  Clients receive care Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through daily, personalizedone-on-one counseling and self-study time in addition to a variety of group therapies and activities including, devotions, community meeting, Christian living group, education group, assertiveness group, expressive therapy, relationship building group, health education, and multi-family group.

Adult Intensive Outpatient - As of April 2008, we are introducing a new program called Pathway to Freedom designed specifically for individuals dealing with sexual addiction.  This is an 8-week program that allows the participant to continue with their weekday job and activities while receiving quality treatment from a team of Christian counselors lead by Kenneth Taylor, LCSW, CSAT.  This program meets Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 6:15 p.m. - 9:15 p.m.  The resources used for this program are the Recovery Start Kit (created by Dr. Patrick Carnes) and the workbook Facing the Shadow.  This task-centered approach with didactic recovery modules and interactive group psychotherapy is an effective alternative to lengthy or expensive inpatient or residential programs.  Participants already in counseling can easily continue with their therapist while in the program and our staff are happy to coordinate treatment and consult with the referring counselor for enhanced care.

Pathway to Freedom - This Intensive Outpatient Program for Sexual Addiction is now available to those who are tired of the pain, loss, shame and burden their addition is having on the emotionally, vocationally, relationally, and spiritually.  Using the Recovery Start Kit created by Patrick Carnes, our Christian counseling team will help participants find their way back to health and freedom.  This program meets Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 6:15 to 9:15 p.m. so it does not interfer with most adults' work schedules.  Click here to read more about this exciting program.

After School Program for Adolescents - This intensive program called Breakaway was created by our staff to address the specific issues of adolescents 14-18 years of age.  It provides a safe and unique healing environment for those struggling with issues such as depression, fears, anxiety, grief, addictions, compulsions, self-harm, poor self-image, stress, problems at school and home, family divorce, and poor relationships.  The program meets Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. so the student can continue to attend school during the day.  The adolescents receive individual and group therapy, and families are involved in a weekly educational support group.  This is typically a four-week program but it can be shortened or lengthened depending on individual needs.  Click here to view the Breakaway brochure for more details.

A FEW CLIENT COMMENTS

"Perhaps the best way to describe my visits with Jane are to compare it with house cleaning.  Sometimes we just dust off a few cob-webs and other times the results are almost like a 'spring cleaning.'  Either way, whatever traffic comes through the door, with God's help (and Jane's counsel) I have the tools to clean it up."      Mary P. - 9/18/08

Free Faith-Based Family Finances Classes - Norm Hostetler, L.C.P.C., will be offering an 8-week course on Monday Evenings beginning January 5, 2009.  He will be using the book, Faith-Based Family Finances, by Ron Blue and Jeremy White.  These classes provide a general overview of financial principles and topics to help participants gain confidence and develop practical tools to manage their personal finances during these economically challenging times.  It is not meant to be a substitute for consultation with financial experts.  Please bring a copy of the book with you or you may purchase it from us for $25.00.

Neurofeedback - Paul Sather, Ph.D., is available to provide Neurofeedback to clients who may benefit from this therapy technique.  Neurofeedback harnesses the client's own ability to effectively alter specific brain waves to find relief for various mental and physical illnesses such as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity  Disorder, Depression, Addictions, and Sleep Disorders.  This natural approach to managing the symptoms of illnesses is often more readily acceptable by clients who are resistant to medication.  Clients currently on a medication regime may be able to reduce the need for medication or eliminate their dependency on medication through the use of the neurofeedback protocols they are taught.  Clients will receive an initial assessment to determine if this therapy technique would be appropriate.

Therapy and Support Group for Parent of Children with ADD - Andrew Linder, L.C.S.W., brings 20 years experience working with children, adolescents, and their families who are coping with ADD.  This Saturday afternoon group affords parents the opportunity to come together to receive support from one another as well as learn techniques and interventions to help their children struggling with the symptoms of ADD.
